September Travel Trade Update

A Crazy Summer to Review

Well I must say it has been a very busy (if not crazy) summer. We had a great start in April, May & June having great weather, and then the added challenge of wildfires in July, August & September. The office has been very busy trying to keep up, gathering information for regional recovery efforts & just trying to help you with getting guests in and out.

We have re-routed a couple of operators and have given suggestions to others on routes and availability. I know this summer was not what anyone expected, but we are strong and will overcome this. We have so much to offer and showcase.

We would appreciate your help in assessing the impact of the wildfires in our region. If you have not received a call from me yet, please fill out the surveys below. It is important for us to gather as much information as possible, to ensure we can properly assess the level of support people may need.

We Need Your Help!

I am starting to get ready for Jonview training in Toronto & Montreal and Canada’s West Marketplace in Victoria, in November. Please send me ANY information that you would like me to share, I will be starting to make my USBs to hand out shortly. Your 2018 or 2019 rates, packages, experiences, changes to your business, or anything you would like us to highlight, are greatly appreciated. As always, pictures are a great seller as people don’t always understand the vast beauty that we have to offer. Action or scenery images are best.

Summer Update

Here’s a summary of what the Travel Trade department was up to this summer

May – I did a day trip to Clinton and met a group of RV travellers that were heading up to Alaska; it was great day for a drive and to stop along the way to take pictures-they really enjoyed what we had to offer.

June – I worked with a group from the UK, to bring them into our region. They were a great bunch, and we had an amazing time on our FAM. The stakeholders who were able to host this group were, as always, awesome! The feedback was positive and one of the operators immediately booked clients for this season.

August – Vanessa (representing the Gold Rush Trail) & I (representing the region) attended Explore BC 2017 in Vancouver to give presentations to all of the RTOs in the Lower Mainland. It was a great show, there were about 215 people that attended and they were filled with questions for us. A few thought the whole region was on fire and others had no idea we even had fires going. It was a great opportunity to help them understand how big our region is and that there were still businesses open.

Facing staffing shortages from the wildfires? go2HR can help.

We understand it’s a difficult transition to return home after being evacuated – cleaning up the devastation from the wildfires, picking up the pieces and putting your life back in order. It’s even harder when you find yourself short-staffed when trying to get your business up and running again. The Province newspaper reports that there could be as many as 20 per cent of employees not returning to the region.

If you’re looking for staff, we would like to remind you to utilize go2HR’s free job board. No matter what kind of positions you are hiring for, post on the job board – exclusively for BC’s tourism and hospitality businesses. go2HR gets more than 40,000 views per month, and many students and job-seekers all over the province visit it frequently.

Let go2HR alleviate your hiring challenges, and help you return your business to normal as soon as possible.

How to post a job on the go2HR job board:

  1. Go to: www.go2hr.ca/jobboard
  2. Click “Post a Job”
  3. You will need to create an account with go2HR before you can post the job. Login if you already have an account.
  4. Follow the instructions on the website. Make sure to select Tourism Region: Cariboo Chilcotin Coast.

Special Thanks

I just want to say thank you to everyone that works with me to make my job a success; I truly appreciate all the support and feedback I receive from you! I know that at times I seem to call and ask the same questions about your properties, and am always asking for information and photos, but I want to let you know that I am always trying to improve my system to make it easier to direct someone that calls with a question or needs advice on where to send their people.

So thank you all so much and I hope that we will see each other on the trails. Make sure you save the dates for November 3 – 5, 2017 in Williams Lake for our Annual AGM and Conference. Your support and your feedback is what help us all in the office to make you a success.

Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.
